The New Rules for Love, Sex, & Dating

Anybody else a little bit disturbed these days by the casual and flippant attitude toward dating and sex? It seems to me that any television series I want to watch is laced with sexual innuendo or straight-up immorality. I usually watch a few episodes, connect with characters, and then have to say my goodbyes in order not to fill my mind with all the yuck. I promise this post isn’t all about television, movie, or culture bashing. I’d like to simply set the stage and highlight an amazing book just released!

Today, The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating is making its debut. If you are in the dating world, the dating-again world, or know someone who is, you need to know about this book.

If you’re a parent, you REALLY want to have this book handy for quick draw! As Andy says in the introduction, even if you’ve already had that “awkward fifteen-minute talk,” you need to consider moving toward “an awkward fifteen-year conversation.”

For high school students, college students, and even dating adults, this book will reframe and reshape views of love, sex, and dating. Andy explores the challenges, assumptions, and land mines associated with dating. He encourages singles to step up and set a new standard for this generation. One that honors God, honors others, and honors the future the reader hopes to experience.

Here’s a link to the INTRO if you’d like to check it out!

Once again, I have some autographed copies to give away! Leave a comment and your email address in order to enter the random drawing. If you’d like to have it autographed for someone else, you can let me know that too.

*Email address is simply so that I can notify the winners.

I love your blog – your recipes, your parenting tips and shared Allie’s rules for high school with our youth pastors. All good stuff! I have a teen daughter and a friend who is a single mom and back on the dating scene – the messages out there about love sex and dating are crazy, confusing and overwhelming. Andy’s book sounds like a great one to keep on the handy around here and to share with my friend!!

  4. Courtney Young says

I first heard this message a few years ago while attending Buckhead Church. At the time I was 27 years old and in a long term relationship. After I left church after the last message and heard the letter she wrote Andy it was like a heaviness came over me. I knew I had not been doing the right thing.

At the time, I had been with my boyfriend over 2 years and we were sexually active. I went home and I told him from that day forward, no more sex. I am so thankful I did. 2 years later he broke up with me because I wasn’t “the one.”

After turning it all over to God, I became the person I was looking for was looking for. I was married this past October and I owe it all to God, Andy, and the Message of “Love, Sex, and Dating.”

  5. Judy Goodson says

We are from Alabama. My 29 year old daughter had saved herself for her husband. She had about decided that she was never to find her soul mate. In 2014, she married the love of her life. He, too, is 29. He came to Jesus in 2009, and although he is from a liberal area in Maine, he reclaimed his purity from studying Andy and Charles Stanley. Once she found out that is where he was being fed, she knew he was something to pursue. He is surely the son in law I’ve long prayed for. I decided this was a good time to share this with you guys, and hopefully to encourage you on your journey. Thank you so much for being an authentic example and continually teaching with boldness that which God planned the whole while. Inside and outside the Bible belt, your teachings are being hugely effective! Blessings!! Judy Crumpler Goodson

  10. Tiffany Britt says

Hi Andy, would love this for my three kids (two girls, 13 and 14 and my son, 9.). As a single mom, I could use it myself too. But frankly I have been shocked by what my kids have heard about sex and dating just on prime time Tv and walking thru the mall. I did Path of Purity with my oldest, but would like some new material for her as she enters high school!

I am the Director of Missions for our ministry and work with high school and college students. We are preparing them for our 2015 trips and have them in group study. Many relational questions come up during our sessions and after reading the intro of this book I will be using it as a reference and having them read the book. It is definitely scripture based, God inspired. Thank you for writing this.

This was a fantastic and practical sermon series!! We are looking forward to reading the book!! Thanks for sharing God’s relevant truths!

  29. Melissa Harbers says

“Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

When I write this, I write it after having wept for God. I wept because of the massacre in Paris and I wept when I read your blog. Why? Because I know this is not God. Please keep reading…

A little bit of background about myself, I attend NPCC for 4 years. I was a Fusion Leader, DoJustice, Single’s Leader, and an Upstreet leader for 3 years. I went on a mission trip to Haiti with the church. I was there the first time Andy gave this sermon. Almost three years ago I left the church. I didn’t know at the time why God would place such a burden on my heart, but looking back He needed to teach me something that the church could not.

“I usually watch a few episodes, connect with characters, and then have to say my goodbyes in order not to fill my mind with all the yuck.” This is why my heart broke when reading your blog. So often the church puts its head in the sand when it comes to things that are not “church like.” When you turn off your TV, you’re choosing to ignore and not take part in a broken world, a world that you, myself, the attendees of North Point are a part of. We are all the broken world, whether we attend church every Sunday or take our clothes off for a living, we are no more or less broken than the next person.

Like I said before, I was there for the Love, Sex, and Dating. I am sure if I look hard enough I still have the DVD. One thing that sticks out in my mind from the sermon was the underlying take-a-way, “Are you the person that the person you are looking for is looking for?” At the time, I tried to become that person for the person who I thought I should be looking for. The person I thought I was looking for was a respected Christian man who would be a leader in our faith and our family. So I volunteered for everything, I joined a Small Group, served at Passion, in the church, attended church every Sunday, sang the loudest raised my hands the highest. I went at it with my entire heart thinking that surely I was becoming that person.

Then one day God placed it on my heart to leave the church and see the world through His eyes. I’m so thankful He did. I stopped becoming the person that the person I thought I was looking for was looking for and started to become the person that God needed me to be. Two years later, God put into my life my husband.

When we isolate ourselves through our beliefs and separate ourselves from what we deem is right and wrong, we create an illusion that we live a God like life. Christ did not live this way, the Pharisees did. Christ walked amongst the ones that the Pharisees thought themselves to be too good for. Christ did not ‘volunteer for the broken’ like the Pharisees did. He came to tell the world that no one was underserving of His love. He came without judgement for the ones the church judged. He didn’t walk away or ‘say good-bye’ He interacted and loved them for who they were sin and all.

Every time I pass a church my heart aches. I ache for the community and I ache knowing how judgmental the church is on the world. All churches are and NPCC and its communities is not immune from this. You and I both know that the most judgmental people lie inside of the church. I do not think it’s an intentional, but NPCC has created a hierarchy of brokenness. They create it by isolating themselves in their own communities and/or church from those who do not attend, from separating themselves as the fortunate from the needy. For me with tears in my eyes I want to shout “THIS IS NOT GOD. THIS IS NOT GOD.” For God and Christ, there is no separation, there is only ONE broken world that we are ALL a part of.

So my prayer when you send this book to individuals that you recognize the ‘standards’ you are creating when searching for a husband or wife. Instead we should be teaching our singles to love like Christ did, unconditionally without judgement and to become not the person that they are looking for is looking for, but to become the person God needs you to be; forgiving, loving, graceful, and with the knowledge that we are all broken and all are deserving of His love and our love.

I have been listening to Pastor Andy’s sermons via iPod app. I have two children- one in college and one a senior in high school. I have shared the videos series The New Rules for Love, Sex and Dating as well as the corresponding discussion questions that are available online with both my children. Pastor Andy’s message is both relevant and practical for the culture our children are presently living in. These resources have initiated an ongoing discussion between each child and myself. I am very grateful for Pastor Andy’s wisdom and clarity with regard to this topic. I would love to have a copy of his book as an additional tool to assist me in my job as a parent to continue to instruct my young adult children in God’s truth.

  41. Sharon thomas says

If it’s not too late….I’d love a copy for my hubby and I for our two teenage kids. You’re kids are a few years ahead of mine so I have appreciated your passing on your wisdom. We know who really is behind all the wisdom of andy’s sermons! Ha ha just kidding. My husband is a pastor too. 😉

  42. Brad says

Having read you more recent blog on coaching teenagers and knowing that I am prone to controlling, this book seems like it would be a big help in the area of dating for both boys and girls (and I have one of each!). I’m also a pastor of a small church that could sure use this wisdom. If you have any left, I’d appreciate it. (

  43. Michele Owens says
