ASK IT!

images1987 was a pretty good year, I’d say. I was a junior at Georgia Tech, minding my own business, and this “guest speaker” showed up at the weekly Bible study I attended. When he finished speaking, I sat there stunned, still absorbing the stuff he taught. It was, hands down, the best message I had ever heard.

Fast-forward to a year later, the “guest speaker” asked me to marry him. It was an easy yes! For a long time, any time Andy was invited to speak to teenagers or college students, I suggested he do that “Walking Wisely” message from Bible study night.

Finally, he put the material into book form. The Best Question Ever came out a bunch of years ago. Last week, the newly updated version, ASK IT, was released in paperback! I’m thrilled that he has republished much of the same content with additional insights he’s gained through the years.

I especially love this book for teenagers and college students, but it is certainly applicable for any and every age. In fact, your greatest regret could have been avoided had you asked this particular question and then acted on your conclusion!

ASK IT is now available on Amazon, at bookstores, and from our resource center as well. Use this link to download chapter one for free! And, certainly send the link for the free chapter to anyone you think might benefit. http://t.co/eOgmUbKvfF/s/l0XO.

If you read chapter one and decide you’d like to have a free autographed copy, just leave a comment here. I’ll be happy to have that “guest speaker” autograph five or six. I’ll wait a few days and then draw some names. Hope you like it as much as I do!

Sandra if thus book is anything like “The Principle of The Path” it’s definitely on my list of reads! That book changed my life, I’m embarrassed to say I have read it a couple of times!

As usual, Andy Stanley’s first chapter has captivated me and I can’t wait to read the whole book. I love the wisdom he shares.

As of the first chapter, this book reminds me of Guardrails… an AWESOME book that discusses setting wise boundaries (in all areas of life) and how setting your boundaries well before the danger zone can keep you from making poor decisions. I absolutely loved the book and how it helped me view boundaries differently.

I suspect the mysterious question in “Ask It” will lead me to similar insights. Andy Stanley has been one of my favorite authors and ministers for years because his teaching has always done more than just provide good information. His books, videos and study guides have inspired me to take action in my Christian walk, and actually make beneficial changes.

For those of us that grew up in a Christian home and have been exposed to Christian teaching for years and years, we may feel like we’ve heard it all, just with a different spin. While interesting, even a new twist on classic teaching doesn’t always lead us to a closer walk with God.

However, in my life, Andy Stanley’s teaching has shed new perspective, the kind that truly inspires even the “lifers” to make beneficial changes. Whether you are a new Christian and looking for Christian teaching that relates to the real world, or whether you are a Christian from early youth, I believe Andy Stanley has a gift for teaching that inspires all.

I’m looking forward to his new book and the insight he’ll share with this one.

Pick me! Pick Me!!! I know that I will need a case of highlighters…. I always do ( she says with a cheeky grin. )

  8. Matt Herrington says

I’m a 22 year old college student and Andy’s sermon series on guardrails and Ask it have helped me shape boundaries for my future relationships and decisions! A signed copy would be pretty sweet!

  9. DeLynn says

The “guest speaker” to whom you refer has been incredibly used by God in our family! We have listened to many of his sermons together. Now that they are a little older (25, 23, 21, and 15) it is not unusual for them to receive a text telling them about a great new message or series. 🙂 I look forward to reading this book! Many blessings on you!

The Best Question Ever is my favorite book from Andy. I have been telling everyone I know for years to get it! I would love an autographed copy of the new version! In fact, I was suggesting to the small group I lead that we should do it as our next study! Thank you, Andy and Sandra, for your faithfulness all these years! Keep up the good work.
    Love, Cathie

I know I could greatly benefit from this book, but also my young adult son and daughter who have so many important decisions to make in the years ahead. I think this is a must read for them! We’re so grateful for your’s and Andy’s ministry!

  12. Tifani Thompson says

We just got this awesome book last week! This book will be a very very close friend in our girl’s lives. They were asking all about the book when it came in the mail. So fun! We actually just sent the ‘Best Question Ever’ book to a friend of ours. Andy’s resources are the BEST gifts ever to share and give to others. So GRATEFUL for you both!!

P.S. I often listen to you on Guardrails/Future Family. I always feel so so encouraged after I hear you:):) You speak such truth. Always needing it:):)

  13. Allison says

if only I could have read this book so many years ago… But I know I have a renewed spirit in Christ and the choices I made long ago helped to mold who I am today. My biggest regret is not having a closer relationship with God during my biggest struggles. This book will make a perfect gift for my son!! I am so thankful for this ministry and my church (Watermarke). My life is transforming and I can see the change and it is good!!

Even if I am not granted the autograph copy, I am ordering the book. Amazing, Truthful and confirmation that the words composed “then” are fitting for today.

  15. dai ik (david) hong says

I’d like to give a copy to a college freshmen who’s made some really poor decisions already this year to let her know that she can still do the wise thing from this point forward and doesn’t have to be defined by her past choices.

  16. Julia Nelson says

I love Andy’s way of teaching. We’re all struggling together to live better and wiser lives. I will use this book wisely! 😀

I live in State College, PA and work in a church office a few days a week. While I am doing mindless tasks, such as folding bulletins, etc, I watch Northpoint’s message from the previous Sunday. Lately I’ve been going back and re-listening to past messages. Yesterday I went back to the Ask It series. It is absolutely profound. And I agree with your original assessment – Andy’s messages are, hands down, the best I have ever heard. I look forward to reading the book.

  18. Natasha Rachell says

AMAZING!!!! I love the messages that Andy brings! My first experience with him was when I attended the church when Michelle Obama visited. I have listened to him ever since. I follow his tweets and watch him on television. The church is far for me to attend regularly but I love his messages. I am about to download this on Audible and will purchase the book from Amazon for my senior in high school! Keep the knowledge coming!!!!

  19. S. Merritt says

My grandson, who is 15, leads a Bible study at his high school each week. This would be excellent material for him.

  20. Brian says

“Choosing to Cheat” changed my life a few years ago. “How to Be Rich” is rocking my world right now… From the sounds of it, I need to read the rest of this too! I’d love a copy.

  21. Robert says

I haven’t read the book, but I’ve listened to Andy’s messages on this. Life changing! I’m thinking I will purchase copies for the members of our college small group.

I’ve already added it to my Amazon “Wish List”, and would love an autographed copy! I grew up in Atlanta and attended Buckhead Church before moving out-of-state. I listen to Andy’s sermon podcasts every week to keep up! 🙂

  23. Belinda says

Love the original book, Best Question Ever! Taught it to a college group. Now my 14 year old step daughter needs to read it!!

  24. Debra says

Hi. I live in Stockbridge, Ga. I attend Southside Church in Peachtree City. A 45 minute drive but worth it. I started a small group last week in my home here in Henry County because I want to do life in circles and not just in rows on Sunday. So far we have 7 ladies in our group and we are watching messages from Northpoint and discussing God’s will for us afterward. We need a satellite church here in Henry County! But until then, I’ll draw these folks to my house to partake…. Good luck to me in winning a copy of Andy’s book. Or I should say, if it’s in His will for me, I’ll truly except the blessing! Enjoy your blog, Mrs. Stanley! You’re an inspiration!

  25. Carrie J says

Have seen and heard Andy’s messages on screen at our Rockford, IL church. Would love to get deeper onto his teachings with this book – he has already caused my husband and I to overcome challenges that we have struggled with for years, has brought us closer together from afar! Thank you for all you do, both of you!

  26. Doug says

I’m leading a high school small group in my church and reading your post and how it affected you at a similar age gets me excited about reading Ask It!

  27. Carrie Davis says

I certainly enjoyed the first chapter and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the book! Thank you, Mrs. Stanley!

  28. Stacy Smith says

I have a 20 minute drive to work each morning so I download the weekly podcasts (and buy the older sermons) to listen to your “guest speaker” every day on my way in. It always starts my day off great. I’d love an autographed copy but I will definitely buy one if I am not one of the fortunate few!

    Love your blog. Thanks!

    Love it!

I would love a copy of this! I have the first book and we did with my small group 6 months ago. I read and listen to anything written by your husband. God has changed my life because of the wisdom Andy has shared and the way in which he has taught it.

  31. Linda N says

Would love to win a copy! I read Deep & Wide about a year ago, and though it seemed to be written for ministry leaders, I got so much from it at a personal level. I live up in Virginia but listen to his message every week at 2:00 when I get home from my own church. My sister attends NP and we talk about the message every week. Thank you to NP for helping her know Christ.

  32. Monique P. says

    Dear Mrs. Stanley,

I hope I am not too late for this giveaway as I would love to get an autograph book for my husband. Ten years ago, he was given an opportunity to start a church and led it for seven years before being “forced” to resign. This was devastating to him – he had always felt that God’s calling for him was to lead a church. For several months, it was difficult for me to get him back to church, which for the last 18 years, I couldn’t get him to miss church on Sundays. In April of 2013, I was finally able to get him to go visit Eagle Brook Church (MN) with me, and this was the start of a new path for us. In August, I signed him up to attend the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit conference that EBC was hosting. After the 2nd day, he came home a changed man. Pastor Andy was the last speaker for the Summit and his message touched my husband deeply. It was then that I was introduced to Pastor Andy and found North Point online. Since then, we’ve listened to all of his online messages and podcasts, and read several of his books. We love the “Be Rich” campaigns and hope that someday, we’ll be able to incorporate this in our new church, which we hope to start in the next two years. We are currently reading his book “Deep and Wide” to get us started in this new chapter of our lives. Thank you so much for sharing these tools so that we can use them to impact the world and let them know of God’s amazing love.

  33. Kate Lee says

I often feel like the days I have left to “parent” my high schooler and mid-schooler are so very numbered … I often tremble, spiritually and mentally, when assessing my performance as a parent – have I done enough, did I say enough, did I emote enough, did I ‘example’ enough, etc etc.

Will be picking up this book, autographed or not 🙂 Thank you for your generous ministry … oh, and Andy’s too!

  34. says

I’m not actually looking to get a copy of Andy’s book (so don’t put me in the running for it…!) but I wanted to drop you a line here since I couldn’t find any other way to connect (like via email).

A few years back I was on staff at NPM on the web team and I helped build NPOnline. That was an amazing opportunity and really thankful for that period of my life.

I’ve since left staff but our family is still @ Buckhead Church and our kids love it.

Anyways… to cut to the chase, I’ve built a small blogging app called Desk and I’d love to give you a copy. You can email me and I’ll send it over!

Thanks for your blog posts – they are super-encouraging!

  35. Andrea says

I’d love a copy! I just listened to Andy’s podcast this week, talking about the book. We have 2 young sons and we’d all benefit from it. God bless!

  36. says

I felt the same way after I heard both Andy & Louie speak back in 2000 at the big Church:) I think it was Seeing God As A Perfect Father that did me in… ENEMIES OF THE HEART though is the book that changed my life for good. Please thank Andy for that one! 🙂

  37. Katie McCurley says

“Dedicated to Lanny”? Is this the same Lanny from KidStuf (I grew up going to First Baptist of Atlanta, then my parents helped build North Point in 90’s – I remember rolling around on rolling chairs with your son, Andy, while they painted the hallway!)??? I was very young, maybe 8ish, but my parents really liked Lanny, and whoever was “Gordo” and Reggie! I moved to Florida for a PhD and miss NPCC immensely, but I still watch online.

Awesome start to what seems like a great book. Keep the faith, and keep trying to master the art of living “full of grace and truth”!

I’ll pass your message to Andy. 🙂

Hi Sandra! I’m late to the party but so thankful this message showed up today in my email. We just started the Ask It series at Wiregrass and talked about The Best Question Ever in small group and I don’t think anyone knew about Ask It! Can’t wait to spread the word and dig deeper. Thank you for sharing!

  39. Michelle Tisdale says

Sandra, love your BLOG and it would be so exciting to have autographed copies of Andy’s book. My husband purchased copies of ASK IT for our small group members this year as Christmas presents, so it would be really special to have them signed by Andy. A million thanks would never suffice for all that you and Andy do for all of us; but will start with just one: THANK YOU!

  40. Lynn Sims says

I am so going to read this book … At my Partner Church (Longleaf) in Warner Robins, GA, today was Ask It – Part 2 (Musical Chairs) by Andy … best message ever! My daughter who lives in Savannah is listening to the sermon right now and I am asking my college son and married daughter to also listen to this sermon!!

I can’t wait to get the book and hear the remaining 4 messages of the series. I would love to have an autographed copy!!

    Thanks for your blog Sandra!

  41. Marilym Ingram says

I just bought two copies each of “Ask It” and “Love, Sex, & Dating” and mailed them to our daughter (Jr) and son (Fr) in Tuscaloosa. Thank you and Andy for saying “Yes” to God’s direction so many years ago. I’ve watched and listened to North Point messages every week since 2006 and what a blessing they have been to our family. Thank you! Marilyn, Birmingham, AL

  42. Lynda C says

Not sure if you have already picked recipients for the books or not, but we have a recently placed foster-to-adopt 14 daughter with us who just loves to read – she had many questions about life and direction. I will definitely be getting this book for her regardless, but I know she would be SO impressed to have an autographed copy!

  43. says

I would have fallen in love with him too. 🙂 Half serious. The first time I heard him I googled his church and listened to almost every sermon he had up on the website at that time. Then this guy I was dating took me to Atlanta to hear Andy speak in person. I did get to meet him and shake his hand. I sat front row. You will never know how much his teachings have guided my walk and my faith. His talks on sex changed the way I dated. For the first time I got it and I listened. I broke up with the guy I was seeing at the time and met my husband shortly after.

  44. Cami grissom says

I would love to get a copy of this book for my 17 year old. I’m happy to buy one. I’d love to see about getting it signed! Is there a way to do that? We no longer live in Georgia but I have lots of connections there. 🙂
